HOME PAGE - 2008 A Fact Based Review of the Major Political Issues of 2008
OVERVIEW - POLITICAL REALITY ONLINE
It is not an exaggeration to say that the 2008 election for
President and the U.S. Congress is the most important in recent
American history. The stakes of the national security and economic
issues are extremely high, and the competing visions of America's
future are extraordinarily different. Therefore, the decisions voters
make this year are of critical importance to the future of America and
its children.
As part of my work, I continuously monitor the
political mood of the country through poll trends and the actual
political discourse among the candidates, the media, the pundits, the
political blogs and the expressed views of the voting public. The very
disturbing observation from this ongoing exercise is that a huge gap
exists between the voting public's perception of the issues and the
substance of the underlying realities. Therefore, many voters are
reaching misguided conclusions in this critical election without an
accurate understanding of the international, geo-strategic, military,
and economic consequences of their decisions.
POLITICAL REALITY - 2008 Normally
it is the responsibility of the media and politicians to help inform
voters about the often complex facts underlying the issues we all face
together. However, the media has become driven by their own political
agendas, and our political leaders do not possess the insight and
wisdom to grasp the truth of the issues themselves much less
communicate them to the voters in a compelling fashion.
Please consider a few key points about our current political environment:
President
Bush has governed in a time of turmoil and war, but he has done an
unbelievably poor job of articulating the rationales for his policies.
Even when he is right, he seems to feel no responsibility to fully
explain his positions, and this permits his opponents to define and
distort the issues to match their political agenda. Voters often
interpret his unwillingness to defend his policies in compelling
fashion as incompetence or arrogance that creates resentment and
disillusionment among large sectors of voters.
In the current election cycle, irresponsible pandering, demagoguery, manipulative imagery
and economic class warfare tactics are the political order of the day.
In
Washington, expansion of personal and party political power has become
more important than doing what is right for the country.
Many
voters on the American left have allowed their political disagreements
with Bush to spin into irrational hatreds that cause them to oppose
everything Bush does even to their own detriment.
Many
voters of the American right are so disillusioned with politics that
they are sitting out the political process to their own detriment.
Many
voters in the American center are disheartened by the phony imagery and
self-serving political pandering and demagoguery on the the left and
the right.
The issues in the 2008 are major, and the stakes of the outcome have never been higher, and yet most voters do not
grasp the complexity of the issues or the implications of the policies
being offered by the political parties.
Despite
this reality, politicians are too often motivated by their personal
ambitions which override any sense of higher purpose. They
relentlessly pursue their personal goals by almost any means, and make
almost no attempt to educate voters about the substance of the critical
issues that we all face together.
There is an almost total dearth of positive, innovative, credible, solutions oriented political leadership.
Voters sense these realities, and their attitudes range from
resigned disillusionment to outrage with the current political
situation. As a result, voter confidence in politicians is near an all time low, and voters
are largely tuning out their messages, and relying on their often
uninformed perceptions and emotions to reach their voting decisions. This
is understandable because the media leaders and the politicians
themselves largely do not possess the vision to lead voters to
understand the fragility of our collective situation. Rather than
addressing these issues on substance, the political class is largely
choosing to rely on traditional, image and emotion driven campaigns
that often distort rather than illuminate the issues and potential
solutions. THE MISSION OF THIS WEBSITE
Almost
no one in the political discourse talks about the true substance of the
issues, or offers profound wisdom, leadership or credible solutions. The
purpose of this website is to examine the facts and offer compelling perspectives on the underlying realities of the major
issues of the 2008 election.
The goal is to challenge the
virulent, self destructive hatreds, and disillusionment voters are
feeling, and to correct the many alarming misperceptions about the issues
by exposing facts and insights that most people have not considered.
Different people may reach contrary conclusions from this data, but I
encourage readers to invest the time to seriously consider these
perspectives as one point of reference before voting in 2008.
The
hope is that readers of this site will find merit in the message and
forward it on to their friends, family and acquaintances who might
appreciate insights into the vitally important issues that will
determine America's future. Six degrees of separation through the internet can be a very powerful tool if people care enough about these issues to take action to inform others. THE CURRENT SITUATION
Most
voters are familiar with the major issues in the current political
campaign as viewed through the lens of their personal concerns and
perceptions. However,
many voters do not have the time, the education or inclination to fully
understand the underlying substance of these complex issues. Despite
this reality, almost no one on the political
spectrum is educating voters about:
the core substance of the issues, or
the vital
interrelationship between the major issues, or
the real world consequences of the various courses of action.
This
reality is in large part due to the fact that the political discourse
has become driven by often inflammatory rhetoric that is designed to
manipulate voter perceptions with little or no regard for the truth or
facts of the issues themselves. Politicians and the media have largely
concluded that it is much more effective to manipulate voter
perceptions than to educate them about the truth of the challenges we
all face together.
The concept on this website is to offer a
resource to counter the prevailing political demagoguery and ineptitude by closely
examining the facts and trying to reach conclusions and suggest real world solutions to
the problems all Americans face together. THE MAJOR ISSUES - 2008
Given the political landscape described above, this website is designed:
To examine the substance of the major issues that Americans face together.
To examine the positions of each political party on these issues.
To reach logic and fact driven conclusions about who offers the best vision for America's future.
The major issues of the 2008 election can be summarized as follows:
Crude Oil
Energy Prices
Iraq
Al Qaeda
Income Taxes
The Economy
All
six of these issues are highly interrelated, and we will review them
separately and collectively on separate tabs that can be found in the
column to the left.
After reviewing the substance of the issues, we will examine the positions of the Democrats and Republicans on separate tabs.
Finally we will review the topics and reach some conclusions on the 2008 Summary tab.
Please
invest the time to read and consider these perspectives before voting
in 2008. If you find merit in these insights, please forward this site
to your friends for their review.
You can begin this journey with the "Crude Oil" tab on the column to the left.
