THE REPUBLICANS
Self-Destructive Ineffectiveness - A Failure to Communicate
It is Not Good Enough to Be Right on the Major Issues

OVERVIEW - THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF 2008

Given the glaring flaws in the Democrat's positions on all the major issues, you would think the Republicans would be about to run away with the 2008 elections.  In reality, they may be on the fast track to political irrelevancy.  What is going on with the Republicans?

  • A complete failure to communicate the substance of the issues, to articulate the soundness of their solutions and to expose the absurdity of the Democrat policy positions.
  • Poor party leadership.  No one in the Republican Party is making any serious effort to educate voters about the issues, or to systematically expose the disastrous economic and national security effect of the Democrat's policies.
  • There is no idealogical operations to devise innovative solutions and articulate cohesive party positions on the issues.
  • Too much reliance on the political process rather than on solutions oriented innovation and idealogical and substantive engagement of the Democrats on the issues. The Republican National Committee is nothing more than a fund raising and get out the vote operation.
  • President Bush is a terrible communicator, and he refuses to invest the time to describe the sound rationale behind his positions even when he is right. This failed approach creates the impression of incompetence and arrogance among voters that cause them to tune him out.  He also provides almost no leadership for the party itself.
  • The Republican Congress has had weak leadership and failed to do anything to retard the growth of government spending.  It also permitted large reductions in America's military capabilities, and pursued a failed armed forces configuration plan under Rumsfeld that did not match the nature of the tasks in Iraq.
  • The administration of Iraq has been deeply flawed, and Bush has failed to articulate the compelling economic and geo-strategic reasons for maintaining a long term force commitment in Iraq.
  • The Republican have given the Democrats a free pass on the deep flaws in the Democrat's policies that would be very destructive to the American economy.
  • The Republicans refuse to forcefully engage in the national debate while they allow the Democrats to pander and demagogue the issues with impunity.
Republican Summary

The Republicans are right on most of the major issues, but they almost seem to be engaging in a political golf match while their Democrat opponents engage in a political knife fight.  Being right on most of the issues is completely worthless if you refuse to deliver your message and expose your opponents folly in compelling fashion.

The Republican Party has not formed a de facto alliance with Islamic extremists as the Democrats have done.  However, its failure to provide effective leadership in the execution of the war, its refusal to support needed increases in America's ground force military capabilities, and its political ineptitude in the war and economic debate has allowed its Democrat opponents to seize control of Congress, and to lead America on a path toward its economic destruction.

In the end, Republican ineptitude may be as large a contributing factor to an economic disaster as Democrat duplicity and demagoguery on the issues themselves.
